Scope and Contents

This collection contains the notebooks of Paul Mitchell Dove, Hobart College class of 1915. Most of the notebooks deal with either chemistry or physics, although one contains notes on philosophy and religion. The notes are all written in Dove's own hand with occasional remarks added by a professor.

Biographical Note

Paul Mitchell Dove graduated from Hobart College with a B.S. in 1915. He was born in Geneva, NY in 1892 and prepared at Pawling School, Pawling, NY. While at Hobart he was a member of the Chapel Choir, Paint and Powder Club, Chimera honor society, College Quartet, and Sigma Phi fraternity. Paul was involved in planning the Freshman Banquet and the Sophomore Hop, and was Assistant Manager for the baseball team. After graduation he lived in his family's home at 512 South Main St., Geneva and was still living there when the 1977 Alumni/Alumnae Directory was published.



Paul was the brother of artist Arthur G. Dove who was a member of the Hobart class of 1903. Arthur Dove only completed one year at Hobart and later graduated from Cornell University.

Provenance

These notebooks were found in the alumni/ae files collection under the call number G Al file D 752. There is no information to indicate who donated the materials or when they were added to the Archives. The notebooks were removed from the Al files in April 2014 and given the collection number SC 40.
