This collection contains college records of Michael Opell, Hobart College Class of 1959, including admissions and commencement records, athletic memorabilia, and programs and publications.

Also of note are several syllabi and other related materials to the Western Civilization academic program required while Michael was a student at the Colleges.

Biographical Note

Michael Lewis Opell was born on October 11, 1937, in New York City. He was a member of the Hobart College Class of 1959. As a student, he held two positions on the Herald staff: Assistant News Editor and Copy Editor. He also participated in WEOS, the Colleges radio station.

Opell was also a talented athlete for the Statesmen, lettering in both soccer and lacrosse.

Michael married Ellen Frances Levine, a 1960 graduate of William Smith College.
