This collection contains the college records of John McDonald, Hobart Class of 1860. Of particular note is a scrapbook containing portrait photographs of classmates and members of the faculty of Hobart College. There are also commencement and prize exhibition programs, a course catalogue, and McDonald's diploma.

Biographical Note

John McDonald (sometimes spelled MacDonald), from Lyons, New York, was a member of the Hobart Free College class of 1860. He was a member of the Philopeuthuan Society and the Sigma Phi fraternity while a student.

This collection was passed down from John McDonald through his son (Frederick West MacDonald), his grandson (Donald MacDonald), his great-grandson (Gordon Crall MacDonald), and his great-granddaughter (Jean Laleve MacDonald Riseman). Jean Laleve MacDonald Riseman and her daughter, Tanya Maria Riseman, donated this collection to Archives & Special Collections in 2008.
